How Children Develop has established itself as the topically organized textbook teachers and researchers trust for the most up-to-date perspectives on child development. The authors, each a well-known scientist and educator―have earned that trust by introducing core concepts and impactful discoveries with an unparalleled integration of theory, cultural research, and applications, all in a style that is authoritative yet immediately understandable and relevant to students.

The new edition has been rigorously updated and welcomes co-author Elizabeth Gershoff (The University of Texas at Austin), who brings a breadth of research and teaching experience to the discussions of social and emotional development. It is also more interactive than ever before, with richer integration between the book and its interactive study features in LaunchPad.

New media option―Achieve Read & Practice, combining a complete eBook with LearningCurve adaptive quizzing. For more, see New to this Edition.

Great Textbook This was for a Family Consumer Studies class cross listed as Psychology- for development in infancy and childhood. I love the conversational style of the book, it is not dry and it is definitely not for rote memorizing. I like the summaries at the end of each chapter. Plenty of information. Chapters are rather long- I used this for an online class I was taking and it surprised me how much reading there was. Some of the topics were very detailed and useful while others felt underdeveloped Book does the job. I bought it used. I needed this book for a class. It was rather expensive considering this is the old edition, however, this seems to be a trend with textbooks. Some of the topics were very detailed and useful while others felt underdeveloped. I would recommend getting the new version of textbooks so that you can resell them. This ends up costing about the same and you get the newest version so you don't have to continuously translate page numbers between versions.Book came in good shape and everything Book came in good shape and everything. The older edition, unlike many other textbooks, is actually pretty out of date. This fortunately wasn't a very hard class so the book was just a reference but it still was missing some new updates.
